Handmade Shoes for Men

This book is about bespoke handmade shoes for men - but not about any of the major ready-made brands. The book presents a great introduction to the more than 200 steps from measuring your feet to the finished shoe. Chapters include taking size, making lasts, the different shoe styles, the different parts of the shoes and how to care for your custom-made shoes. The book also includes superb features on the world's most famous workshops including Lobb, Berluti and Vogel. The author Laszlo Vass is the owner of the well-known Vass shoe workshop in the center of Budapest, Hungary. If you are a shoe connaisseur or affictionado and also think that "elegance begins with shoes" then this book is the right choice for you.

Make Your Own Shoes

Have you ever thought of making your own shoes?

I did.

I tore some shoes apart with a hammer, pliers, and screwdriver. After inspecting the parts, I realized I could duplicate them and make a pair of shoes. I experimented with different ideas until I finally came up with a good method.

After a lot of publicity and teaching locally, I wrote my first book on shoemaking. Since that time, I have revised the book several times, adding new ideas as I developed them.

I have given many demonstrations of my shoemaking to clubs and on TV. Now that I am on the Internet, I get orders from all over the world. In addition to individual orders, I sell to theater groups, recreation centers, libraries, and schools.

Crafting Handmade Shoes

In Crafting Handmade Shoes: Great-Looking Shoes, Sandals, Slippers & Boots, Raymond covers the fundamentals of shoemaking first, including pictures, sidebars with flair (did you know that platform heels were first worn by sixteenth-century Venetian prostitutes?), and great instructions for techniques. One after another, the approximately 30 patterns proceed--each one, quite frankly, more appealing than the last--from an apple pie-color sandal to a Santa Fe-like desert sunrise moccasin. Templates included.
